The afternoon tea has the potential to be great but was lacking in a lot of ways. According to their menu, the afternoon tea is $16.00 per person and includes your selection of one hot tea blend out of four, scone with clotted cream and strawberry jam, an assortment of macarons, petite fours, and mandolins and your choice of 2 sandwiches out of 5 options all to be served on white bread. I really wanted to love The Social. It's a charming restaurant that appeared to have vegan-friendly options, and I always enjoy supporting local businesses. The service, atmosphere, and three of the main dishes deserve three stars. Our server was incredibly friendly and helpful, and dining on the restaurant's porch was a delightful experience. However, despite the limited number of occupied tables, the food took a long time to arrive. Two of our orders were incorrect, but our server quickly rectified the mistakes. This was our second visit. Our first was soon after it it opened and we were disappointed but were willing to go for a second time. We were equally, if not more, disappointed. Our waitress was very good...pleasant, attentive and accommodating. Our meals however, were underwhelming. It was as Sunday Brunch. We ordered the waffles with fruit and Nutella and Eggs Benedict. Presentation was Connecticut diner style. Two huge waffles were served dry with strawberries and the spread and syrup separate in a do-it-yourself style. This place a few months ago was very decent. However, while the wait staff was super kind and cordial, it took about 20 minutes to get water and an hour and a half to get mains. I dined with two others and they ordered scallops with brussel sprouts. After a very long wait, they both received small hockey pucks covered in balsamic (sad excuses for scallops, wildly overcooked drenched in cheap balsamic), paired with what we're essentially raw brussel sprouts with cheese melted on top. I ordered the chicken and the nicest thing I can say was that it was fine. Frankly, Costco's rotisseries are better cooked. We planned a wedding celebration for family members who live abroad and were visiting briefly in Vermont. We reserved the porch and had a lovely dinner with an attentive and excellent waitress. Everyone loved the food and the drinks and the outdoor setting was Covid safe and beautiful. The event was topped off by a fireworks display that we enjoyed from the porch. Things went very smoothly and I was delighted. We had 13 guests who all ordered different main dishes and side dishes and all were very happy with their choices. This inn is not up to par. We stayed in a superior king room for one night and it was too long. The carpets were dirty and stained, wallpaper was peeling in multiple places, the WiFi was unreliable (we had to use our cell phones for internet), the bed sheets didn't fit properly, the bath towels were frayed, there was a missing shelf in the bathroom with brackets still in place, only one bar of soap provided, lampshades were stained, and breakfast was disappointing with hard scones, sad apples, cold quiche, crumbs on the table, garbage on the buffet, and a stained tablecloth with no napkins. The list goes on, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Despite ongoing renovations, my room at the front of the inn was not affected and I had an excellent stay. Room #2 was spacious, clean, and had a very comfortable bed. There was also an alcove with a single bed for a third person. I appreciated the separate heat control in the bathroom. The inn is conveniently located in town, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The innkeepers I met were friendly and helpful. There is a construction project next door, which started early in the morning. Hopefully, it will be completed before it's necessary to open the windows.

I finally had the opportunity to visit this restaurant last weekend. My mother and sister were in town for the night, staying in a charming room at The Inn. Although we had hoped to enjoy the porch, the weather was a bit chilly so we sat inside instead. The atmosphere inside was spacious and relaxing. Our server was delightful, helpful, patient, and fun! She greeted us promptly, took our drink orders (the mimosas were fantastic!), and the food arrived quickly as well. I ordered the Benedict and it was delicious! We had The Social as the caterer for our wedding in Vermont. We went with a buffet style dinner and full bar. The food was amazing! We had many dietary restrictions (GF, non-dairy, etc. and The Social was able to accommodate all of our requests. The bar had plenty of variety and somehow offered Heady Topper (still in shock that we had Heady Topper at the wedding! . The bar manager also helped us develop signature cocktails which all our guests loved. Special thanks to Thomas for coordinating and helping us pull everything together!

We collaborated with the team at The Social to commemorate my sister-in-law's life. The staff made the entire process effortless, going above and beyond to ensure every detail was taken care of. The food was outstanding, and the wait staff did a fantastic job ensuring we had everything we needed, without being intrusive. The atmosphere was lovely, with different private rooms available. We will certainly return in the future! Thank you once again!
