U Castellu - Reservar uma mesa

We’ve been here many times over the past 25 plus years. We always drop by for lunch. So this is the first review. But this restaurant stands up to the test of time. It’s a courtyard restaurant in the shadow of a wealthy person’s castle, literally. It’s s a charming setting for lunch or dinner. The menu is simple but has a sophistication. We had the menu du jour. it was fantastic value. Two courses: €17 per person; nicely prepared dishes. The service has a suitably laidback pace. The staff are very friendly. Busy restaurant with nice outside area. There were cheaper set menus on offer but we decided to go for the A La Carte entrecôte steak. Big mistake! It was a plateful of gristle with a few chips and virtually inedible. I left pretty well all of the meat and mentioned to the waitress that it was not very good and she advised she would let the chef know. We paid €50 for a couple of drinks and two very poor steaks. Did not offer good value for money and left a very bad taste in our mouths! The worst meal of our two week trip unfortunately.

We have been coming to this restaurant for several years and seen it change from something quite simple to a more comprehensive but lovely menu that features good quality Corsican dishes. It is in a lovely sheltered setting in a courtyard adjoining the walls of the old citadel. We went twice this year despite making a complete idiot of ourselves by complimenting the waiter's good English and asking where he came from Brighton.

Nice location and lighting.Fixed menus fairly priced and good value, a la carte not so. Food average to average minus. Service average minus. Will not return, but not a horror story either.

Beautiful ambience. Very nice food. Excellent service. One waiter spoke perfect English. My best meal in Algajola.
