once again I had to make shops in idstein, and in the evening they stroll through the idysteine inner city again the consideration which restaurant I could visit this year. Finally my choice fell into the restaurant “Zur Peif”. this is an impressive old building in the old town. during the day they have to get used to the damped light and the somewhat inadequate atmosphere in the inner. when the building was created a few years ago, no one thought of generously glazed window fronts to capture daylight. in the inner one gets a very inviting theke for people who want to meet with friends or colleagues for the evening. next to it, the restaurant still offers for estimated 25 to 30 people place,...

I first visited Idstein last fall at the suggestion of a co-worker and was disappointed when Zur Peif was closed. The pictures and reviews on Tripadvisor drew me to it and we did eventually get there a couple of weeks ago with some relatives who were visiting from the States. It was cool and rainy so when we went inside it was a welcome respite from the elements. Iris, the owner, took care of us and she was a lot of fun--she engaged us on the history of the house and restaurant, the local Hessian cuisine, and the Jazzfest in July among other things. I stayed in Idstein for one night on my way back home to London and the hotel recommended Zur Peif in the centre of the town. When I arrived the place was full except one table and Iris the English speaking owner seated me immediately outside amongst around 20 other tables just off the small town square. and recommended the local beer which was wonderful. There was a menu and a specials board and Iris recommended the Beef Soup and Lamb Casserole both of which were outstanding (especially the lamb) . Hi,The restaurant is a great place to experience real regional cooking like Handkäs mit Musik. That is not only German food it is regional Hessen food. Try a glas of refreshing apple vine mixed with soda (sauer gespritzter) or if you prefer get the sweet mix. The historic location is at the central place in the old town Idstein. They also offer snacks and small dishes.

Nice staff, very fresh salad but the vegetarian options are limited. The quiche wasn't good. But the rest superb.
