A few years ago the Val d'Or lost its Michelin star, its chef and its management team, but now everything is back on track, with the restaurant establishing itself as the best that Mercurey has to offer, and it's well worth a visit.The menu has been slowly expanding since the restaurant re-opened, and there is now a decent choice. The basic menu (23€ for three courses or 17€ for two) offers excellent choice at lunchtime, although unfortunately two dishes are stripped away in the evening, making options more restricted. Had an evening meal here when staying in the hotel on a trip back to the UK. The food was extremely good, great value and well presented. The service was friendly and informative. We both had meals from the fixed price menus. Snails in a garlic butter and cream sauce were slightly different to the usual that is served and to our taste better. The mains on all the menus were dominated by fish and game birds with no beef on the menu which was quite surprising. As we had had fish the previous night we opted for the chicken which we would not normally have chosen but this was a great choice as the presentation and taste was better than any chicken we have previously ordered. This nice restaurant at the small village Mercurey offers very tasty menus. We are really surprised by this excellent restaurant in the middle off Département Saône-et-Loire sub region of Burgundy and we learned later this evening that the kitchen crew is working on a star. The dishes are very well prepared and are really delicious – as well how it is arranged on the plate, but I must say – sorry for that, I know it is haute cuisine - I like dishes with vegetables and not fish or duck ‘on’ vegetables. Stopped for lunch before going to wine tasting at Antonin Rodet in Mercurey. Menu du jour delicious: home made paté followed by duck confit €13.90 Wine by the glass. Madame very welcoming and speaks English. Looked a great little hotel to stay in as well.

No doubt this is Burgundy. The food and the wine list do not cheat. The specialties are well prepared, well priced, and made to order. The entire staff is efficient and 100% focused on your wellbeing. Thanks!
