Montargis is about as French as a French town could be beautiful municipal buildings, pretty waterways, little mediaeval streets, beautiful floral displays, a weekly market... Despite that, it offers a range of restaurants: African, Syrian, Chinese, Bangladeshi, Japanese and more. But when in France, eat French. And if you want to eat French in Montargis, you can't really do better than La Cantine. It's family run and we are served by Madame, impeccable in black, while Monsieur is in the kitchen in his whites. This was our 2nd visit , we'd been here late one night four years ago and recommended by our hotel manager. The restaurant on a side street easy to walk past unnoticed but when we poked our heads in it was packed and not a tourist in sight, the food was good and value and service equally so. We found the place again a week ago and the food, service and value as good as before. Still no tourists in sight, this place is a gem the locals all know about.

This was an unexpected pleasure. The food and the service from Maman her daughter and husband was unquestionably superb. To pay what we did having the food we had with the presentation of it on the plate was such fantastic value

On s est arrêté à 7 pers…par pur hasard et très bonne surprise…simple et très bon….pn s’est régalé
