Roter Hahn Restaurant und Bar

This restaurant was suggested by a fellow expat and I'm glad it was! We had the first of what I'm sure will be many great evenings. Though small, we had a reservation for our group of 10 located at the back of the restaurant. Our waiter graciously and efficiently managed our drink and appetizer orders as everyone arrived over the course of 20 minutes. (Note: parking is on the street and it can be tricky to find a spot. Take the tram if possible. The wine card was small, but with solid choices I opted for the Dornfelder and my friend ordered the Grauburgunder, both of which were excellent. Received a very warm welcome from the staff. The restaurant was busy which was a good sign for a wet Tuesday evening. It has a stylish and contemporary feel with red, black and white décor and soft lighting. Quite an extensive menu including local specialities and seasonal dishes currently mussels and mushroom season in North Germany! only the desserts were a little lacking in choice but given the hearty portions unlikely to be a great issue. We had starters of soup then mains of steak and breast of chicken in orange and masala sauce both were tasty and the steak was delivered exactly as ordered medium/rare. Haben uns zum Essen im Roten Hahn getroffen.Es war schon sehr voll, wir hatten nicht reserviert, aber trotzdem ein Tisch bekommen.Wir wurden von der freundlichen Bedienung vor unserer Bestellung darauf aufmerksam gemacht, das es zu Wartezeit kommen kann. Wir sind geblieben und haben vorweg Brot und Aioli für die Wartezeit bekommen.Unser Essen hat uns sehr gut geschmeckt, und hat letzten Endes gar nicht so lang gedauert.Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder!

Locals directed me to this place. Service was great, food selection was varied and most importantly, it was quite good. Tap selection was good, had some local brews. Go for the local (North German) selection on the menu. I went with the Knipp, it was excellent.

We had here a very pleasant dinner. The food was delicious, served quite fast for a full restaurant.
