I have never been impressed by Shanghai Tokyo Cafe. The interior looks alright, but the food and service is mediocre at best. I usually avoid coming here because the food isn’t great, rice is sometimes mushy or smells weird to the degree that I feel sick or throw up after eating. The service is also horrible. Every time I have come here, the cashiers gave me an attitude, even when THEY messed up my order. The last two times I ordered drinks, they never included the drink with the order, and when I brought it up they didn’t even apologize for forgetting and acted as if I caused them a huge inconvenience by asking for what I ordered. The restaurant isn’t very large, but it has a warm, naturally lit atmosphere that’s perfect for a relaxed dining experience. The staff is incredibly friendly and always ready to offer delicious recommendations. I usually visit with friends so that we can enjoy a family-style meal and sample as many dishes as possible. On my last visit, we ordered Ma Po Tofu, Beef with Peppers, Beef Chow Mein, Chicken Mei Fun, and Four Season Green Beans, and each dish was exquisite. While ST is not very large, it offers a naturally lit and relaxed atmosphere. The staff is very friendly and has provided some great recommendations. I often go with friends so we can share dishes family-style, which allows me to sample a variety of options. Less than eight hours ago, my husband and I decided to order food from Shanghai Tokyo Café in College Park, Maryland, using Grubhub. He opted for the Roast Pork Mei Fun, and we shared a six-piece pork gyoza appetizer. I chose the chirashi bowl along with two pieces of yellowtail sashimi. The ginger that accompanied the dish really enhanced the flavors of everything we had. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and I’m grateful that my husband treated us, even though I appreciate the insights of both professional and amateur food critics alike. I ordered takeout and found the service to be quite slow. We got a beef bento box and chicken drunken noodles. Unfortunately, the drunken noodles didn't taste like they should; they were spicy but otherwise lacked flavor, especially the signature basil taste that’s typical for this dish. The beef bento box was just average—nothing memorable. I don’t think I’d return here. The taro bubble tea with tapioca was enjoyable, but it wasn’t served cold.

This is the best General Tso's Shrimp in the area! Today, I added tofu, and it made the dish even better. The restaurant is very punctual and maintains high standards of cleanliness. They could work on improving their phone service, though.

This place was fantastic. They shut down during the mid-pandemic, and I really miss it. The sushi and miso were exceptional!
