Amazing. We are from Charlotte, NC and have a lot of bakery and ice cream options. Our family is somewhat obsessed with the best red velvet anything. This place has the best cake recipe we have ever had. Hands down. If someone said they didn’t really like red velvet, this would be the cupcake that would bring them around. Plus! They put it in their ice cream. We also had the carrot and the Boston creme. Also amazing. Do yourself (or someone you love or want to impress) a favor and get over to this shop.

I’ve been making and decorating cakes for so many years I’ve stopped eating cake. After eating a lemon meringue cupcake here I’ve eaten three cupcakes in one week. They’re extraordinary and the fact that they are FRESH each day, not kept in a cooler as long as possible, is awesome. Carytown cupcakes does that but their cupcakes are sorely lacking in imagination and they can’t touch the texture that Smallcakes manages to get right each time. I can’t wait for more citrus options!

We have a family of cupcake connoisseurs....we’ve tasted them all around the DC area...including those famous ones that started in that “old” part of DC... These are the best most moist of them all. My family enjoyed the variety that I chose...the margarita, the lemon, the birthday cake....all were hits.

We custom ordered a cake for our 10 year anniversary and it was amazing!! So fresh and the flavor was perfect. I highly reccomend smallcakes and will definitely be ordered all my future cakes from here.

Excellent cupcakes, so worth a trip! They are nice and fluffy and airy not dense or dry. I was really pleased with the Boston Creme. The perfect amount of icing to cake ratio too.
