Spitalkeller - Reservar uma mesa

Located across the river from the old town, and behind a retirement home. It is out of the way of most tourists, and not all that easy to find. That said, it offers a nice selection of food and the beer that they brew is very good. Now the food can be mixed. I had duck which was excellent, but the wife's goose was dry and overcooked and seemed to have been sitting around for awhile. Those that we were with had more traditional dishes and they all looked great. It can be difficult to find Bavarian food in Regensburg as the town is geared towards a college age crowd. After a short walk in the 35 degree temperature three of us ended up in the Spitalkeller.As this was the week of the the Burgerfest there was a group of Bavarian musicians performing which added some local colour (but the younger member of our party was not over impressed with this :) )The food was traditional schweinebraten with potato noodles, sauerkraut and dumplings. And it was excellent as was the dunkles weissbier. Service was prompt and polite and the beer garden itself was well kept and shady.

above-average eating and above-average service, but a device of this size should not surprise guests with claims after payment in cash. we were a big party and the bill totaling 277 euro, which I wanted to pay for everyone. the restaurant refused to accept my american express card, refused my mastercard, refused my visa card and claimed they could only process local bank cards. nonsense, they have to come with the 21st century or warn a sign traveling to take a bag with cash with them.

our family found the service excellent. our waiter gave us great advice about eating and wine/drinks. the food was good and was quite large. overall a great evening
